This week, Tom has a conversation with Dr. Julie Carpenter. Julie has conducted seminal research in human-robot interaction (HRI) between military personnel who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and the robots they use to conduct Explosive Ordnance Disposal missions. Julie's research has caught the attention of many HRI observers.
She is currently a Research Fellow in the Ethics + Emerging Sciences Group at California Polytechnic State University, as well as an independent consultant.
Julie is also the author of the book, Culture and Human-Robot Interactions in Militarized Spaces: A War Story, to be published in November by Ashgate.
